Welcome to HE SAID - SHE SAID, a unique critique of Fox Valley events. Our goal is to provide a perspective, in a very useful way. We figured out something recently, something scientists have known for a long time. It seems that some people use their left hemisphere, some, their right. Men are from Mars, Women, from Venus - or so the story goes. But you need not worry about any of that here, because we cover it all - from the male point of view as well as the female point of view. So read, absorb and enjoy... And try NOT to choose sides! |

H: Hey wait a minute you’re not Christina…..
S: And you don’t look that good in a skirt….
H: But I thought she always did these reviews?
S: Oh she said something about being a vegetarian and seeing as the show is called “Spamalot”
H: But spam isn’t real meat……
S: And it ain’t no vegetable.
H: But “Spamalot” is worth every bite…..
S: Clever….Now about the show…my face and gut still hurt from all the laughter . I saw the movie a long time ago and forgot how good it was. The play on words, the double entendres, and just plain silliness, brought all the memories back.
H: and I’ve only seen bits and pieces of the movie and still had great laughs. I know I’m not your typical Monty Python wanna-be. But this show hits your funny bone from whatever position it might be in.
S: I’m a huge fan of musicals, but I know when a good parody is done…and this was one. What I’m saying is you don’t have to love (or even tolerate) musicals to enjoy this show.
H: It covered just about every taboo known to man, and broke all of them……I like that! I have to speak about the technical aspect of the show. I’ve been to a number of amateur and professional shows. In my mind there is nothing more that can ruin a show than poor sound, audio too loud, or poor sight lines. But these guys…(or were they gals? With a Monty Python show it’s hard to be sure) really ran a beautifully technical show. And the timing was impeccable.
S: I agree!
H: Did you catch that folks…she said I was right!
S: I didn’t say your were right, I said I agree. As I was saying, the voices were great, and some of the scenes not from the movie were a pleasant surprise. I knew this wouldn’t happen, but they didn’t take themselves too seriously while executing a professional show.
H: A pleasant surprise? Is that all you can say?! Come on! Whenever you can get a show set in medieval times to crank out a “Journey” tune, a tribute to “Barry Manilow” and a rip on “Disney World," you get more than a “pleasant surprise." They even worked in “Always look on the bright side of life!"
S: Oh your words wound me……I really liked the actor who played the prince in the tower (and the guy who isn‘t dead yet). He caught my attention even when he wasn’t the main focus of the scene. Like most stage productions each actor takes on more than one role. These folks were so good, you had a hard time recognizing them from any other character they may have played. It seemed as if it was a cast of thousands…..or at least a couple of dozen. Don’t you want to mention something about the King?
H: Nah…you’re on a roll. Don’t let me stop you from talking now. I never could before.
S: Anyway, before I was so rudely interrupted…..I think we both agree, the King’s character had the audience in the palm of his hand. Just a look from him and we were all laughing.
H: Sounds a lot like the last girl I dated last night
S; She was laughing? So search out “Spamalot” at the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center and you will find your own holy grail.
H Or better yet prove you’re “not dead yet” and see “Spamalot." If you see the show you’ll know what I mean. Okay, I stole that from Sindee. Hey Christina, we’re really sorry you couldn’t go… NOT!
