Welcome to HE SAID - SHE SAID, a unique critique of Fox Valley events. Our goal is to provide a perspective, in a very useful way. We figured out something recently, something scientists have known for a long time. It seems that some people use their left hemisphere, some, their right. Men are from Mars, Women, from Venus - or so the story goes. But you need not worry about any of that here, because we cover it all - from the male point of view as well as the female point of view. So read, absorb and enjoy... And try NOT to choose sides! |

S: Right away we had a good feeling about the evening when Jim (the owner) greeted us with a warm smile and friendly hello.
H: I was pleased with the layout of the restaurant. It has a comfortable atmosphere and a classy touch. We were seated immediately and our service was excellent. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful in answering our questions and giving suggestions on the menu.
S: Okay, let’s give everyone some examples of our experience at “The Main Event.” Our waitress, Marlene, was by our side almost as soon as we were seated. She had a smile on her face and was ready to give recommendations or just take our order.
H: I ordered a Southern Comfort Old Fashioned Sweet with Brussels sprouts, an olive and a mushroom. I gave Christina the olive as I know she likes them. The Old Fashioned was delivered quickly and tasted excellent. Marlene had a great recommendation to order the Rib-eye and Shrimp Scampi combination dinner, so we did. The shrimp were big and tasty, seasoned just right for me. The rib-eye was cooked towards Christina’s liking , but it still melted in my mouth.
S: We asked about a favorite appetizer at The Main Event. Breaded white mozzarella sticks it was. They were brought right away with a yummy red sauce. No greasy aftertaste, just Wisconsin cheese with breading fried to perfection. It would have been so easy to fill up on those because the serving was plentiful. Besides the rib-eye and scampi, one of us decided to try the prime rib/seafood buffet. My first reaction was how colorful and clean everything was.
H: I was eyeing up the blue cheese chunks and the delicious bacon dressing.
S: I knew there would be some sort of reaction from you at the salad bar when you saw the blue cheese. It might seem like such a minor thing but rarely have I seen such variety at a salad bar. The salad bar would be a full meal in itself with fresh shredded cheese, bean salad (maybe the best I’ve ever had), broccoli salad (so fresh and flavorful), coleslaw (I must say, perfect) and much more.
H: I was pleasantly surprised to see the crab legs on a seafood buffet. I like to make them whenever I can but it’s a nice treat to be able to have as many as I like and not have to cook them all.
S: I agree. And I don’t have to watch you to make sure they aren’t overcooked! The crab legs were so easy to open I didn’t even use the utensil provided for the undertaking. Just crack open and pull out that delicious meat from the sea. Drawn butter . . . I was in heaven.
H: I liked the selection of music. There was some 80’s soft rock and some country.
S: I enjoyed the music, too. Also, I think we should comment about the air quality as we were in a Little Chute restaurant where smoking is permitted.
H: I was impressed with the ventilation system at Main Event. I didn’t smell any of the smoke from the bar area in the dining area even though it’s an “open concept.”
S: That was nice. You could see the bar and everyone gathering there having a great time. Jim took the time to fill us in about his state of the art ventilation system.
H: Okay, now about the cheesecake. By this time I am pretty full and only have room to taste dessert.
S: Are you glad you had a little?
H: Absolutely! The cheesecake was delicious. I liked the choice of fruit toppings of blueberry and cherry; I had both toppings.
S: I had the “death by chocolate” dessert which was incredible at home that night and the next day. It’s so rich and dense that you must savor each and every bite. Okay, you don’t have to but it’s highly recommended by this patron. Besides, the desserts are all fancied up with drizzling of this and that you want to slow down a little and let everything around you just fade away as you relax and enjoy. And you do have a choice when you go to Main Event. Do you want to enjoy soup and sandwich and have some fine drinks with friends? Are you really hungry yet want quality verses just quantity? Are you celebrating something special with a friend, family member, colleague or your sweetheart? Come on over to Main Event in Little Chute. Business meetings during the day and whatever you want at night, Jim and Tracie have been in this business for over 25 years and know how to cater to your every need. They aren’t new to serving (having owned “Jacks or Better for some 20 years). And they aren’t new to coming up with innovative ways to serve our community better. Come to Main Event yourself and meet some of the friendliest wait staff and owners around. Oh, and the food is incredible!
