"How to cope with Arthritis." Arthritis is one of the most debilitating conditions that the population suffers from today. There are many different types of arthritis, but the most common form is called osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis, or OA, begins when the cartilage between the bones starts to degenerate and can lead to boney changes and possibly fusion of the joints. Symptoms of OA are usually constant joint stiffness and discomfort. It can eventually lead to immobility of a joint. The most common places for OA are the fingers, the spine and back, hip and knee. Osteoarthritis can be caused by many factors, though it is most commonly associated with minor traumas and repetitive motion injuries. There are many medical and natural treatments for osteoarthritis. Medical doctors usually prescribe NSAID's such as ibuprofen to deal with the pain and inflammation associated with OA. Many people use the natural vitamins glucosamine and chrondroitin sulfate. These are both naturally occurring substances found in joints and may help lubricate them. Chiropractic works on naturally restoring proper mobility to the joints, which reduces the pain and inflammation. Acupuncture and massage work on increasing circulation to reduce the pain and discomfort. Exercise is a key factor in not only preventing, but also treating osteoarthritis. Exercise stimulates the joints to naturally lubricate themselves. Low impact exercises are the best for joint health, especially walking and swimming. Tai Chi, an Asian exercise program focusing on slow controlled movements, has also been shown to be beneficial for arthritis suffers as well. The important thing for all arthritis suffers to know is that there are options for dealing with your problem. Make an education decision on the treatment that would work best for you.
