Before you actually pick out a house, you need to choose what cities or communities you would like to live in. There are many factors you should pay attention to, not only for yourself, but because you eventually will sell the home to someone else. Carefully choosing your community is the first step in "location, location, location" and can help maximize your future potential resale value. Look for a community with a viable and stable economy. Check out the services offered by the local government. Are the libraries good? What is the crime rate like? Are there youth sports and well maintained athletic facilities and parks? Schools are also important even if you don't have school aged children. Many of your potential resale buyers will be concerned about the schools in the area. Property taxes are another thing to consider. Some areas have higher taxes than another, but that can also mean increased services, better schools and well maintained roads. A successful home purchase starts with a little research into not just the houses in the area, but the area itself!
